Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and usertank when you use usertank.co. They're written to be readable. If anything is unclear, ask us.
1. What usertank is
usertank is a marketplace that connects people building software (“builders”) with people who give feedback on it (“testers”) through short, paid video sessions. We match people, host the booking and call tools, take payment and pay testers.
Builders and testers are independent of usertank and of each other. usertank doesn’t employ testers, and it isn’t responsible for the products builders share or for what anyone says during a session.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to use usertank.
- Give accurate information about yourself, and keep it up to date. Matching depends on it.
- You sign in with your email and password, or with Google. Keep your password and inbox secure; you’re responsible for activity on your account.
- One person, one account. Don’t create accounts for someone else or to get around a suspension.
3. Sessions and payments for builders
- Prices are shown before you pay. You pay up front through Stripe when you fund a request.
- We hold your payment until each session happens. Part of each session price goes to the tester and the rest is usertank’s fee.
- If a tester doesn’t show up, tell us in the wrap-up. We’ll find a replacement or refund that session, your choice.
- You can ask for a refund of any funded session that hasn’t been booked yet.
- After a call, confirm it happened so the tester is paid. If you don’t respond within 48 hours of a session that took place, we confirm it automatically.
- We don’t guarantee how quickly testers are found or what they’ll say, but we’ll keep you updated and refund sessions we can’t fill.
4. Sessions and pay for testers
If you join as a tester, the Tester Agreement also applies. In short: you choose which sessions to take, you’re paid the amount shown for each completed session, and you keep what you see private.
5. Calls, transcripts and recordings
- When a session takes place in Google Meet or Zoom and the tester has agreed when booking, usertank’s notetaker (provided by Recall.ai) joins the call to create a written transcript for the builder. It announces itself in the call chat.
- usertank keeps the transcript, not the audio or video. Our provider holds the recording for at most 24 hours while the transcript is made, and we ask for it to be deleted as soon as the transcript is saved.
- Sessions in usertank’s built-in video room are not recorded or transcribed.
- Builders must not make their own recordings (audio, video or screen) unless the tester clearly agrees at the start of the call. A tester can say no without losing their pay.
- Be respectful. Harassment, discrimination, or pressuring someone to share personal information isn’t allowed.
6. Confidentiality and feedback
- Testers must keep builders’ unreleased products, ideas and session details private.
- Builders may use testers’ feedback and takeaways to improve their products, without paying anything beyond the session price. Don’t publish a tester’s name, image or personal details without their permission.
- Builders must only use testers’ information for the session, and must not contact testers outside usertank to arrange unpaid work.
7. What you can't do
- Use usertank for anything illegal, deceptive or harmful, or share products that are.
- Try to break, overload or get around the security of usertank.
- Arrange to pay or be paid outside usertank for sessions you found through usertank.
- Scrape the site or use it to collect people’s information.
8. Payments are handled by Stripe
Card payments and payouts are processed by Stripe. Testers who set up payouts also agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement. usertank never sees full card or bank details.
9. Ending your account
You can stop using usertank at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. If we do, we’ll pay testers for sessions already completed and refund builders for sessions not yet held, unless the account was closed for fraud.
10. Disclaimers and liability
usertank is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep it running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, usertank isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid or were paid through usertank in the 3 months before the claim.
11. Changes and the law that applies
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
